Deer Park's District School / Industry
Advisory Board meeting

Another busy agenda was scheduled for Deer Park School District’s December School/Industry Advisory Board Meeting. Kathy Jokubiel, chairperson of the Advisory Board, began the meeting by highlighting the 2001-2002 business and guidance departments’ joint activities, such as Career Day and Teens on the Job. Deer Park High School student Eric Kouskalis updated participants about the District’s website. In April, the District will be attending a technology fair, which will showcase the website and it features. Deer Park High School teacher Nancy Binger spoke about a new elective called Career Planning. "The course offers students the opportunity to delve into the field they might like to pursue after graduation," Mrs. Binger said. Students taking the course will work closely with Deer Park School District’s Director of Guidance Ray Martinez. "The entire guidance department is excited about the class," Mr. Martinez said. "I hope to see the course broaden in the upcoming years." Deer Park High School Business teacher Jill Eising introduced three of her students that had participated in the Cooperative Education and Internship Programs. Each detailed their experiences and the tremendous effect it had on them. Mrs. Jokubiel thanked the business owners for their help designing valuable mentoring opportunity for the Deer Park students, further enriching their education.
