Good luck to new owner Maria who just opened a Mail Boxes Etc. at 4940 Merrick Rd., Massapequa Park. •Happy birthday to Deer Park Lion Tony Beccaria’s Suzanne on the sixth. Grandson Anthony Michael Beccaria, son of Michael and Kristen, became three on the 16th. Pink congratulations are in order for Robert and Lori-Ann Beccaria Balzano and older sister Emily Noel who welcomed Katie Elisabeth on March 29. How exciting for the holidays, too. •April 7 marked the 14th birthday of the theatrical and athletic Samantha Lecesse, daughter of car aficionado Charlie and Bea (B.P.W.) Lewanduski Lecesse. •A super first birthday was in store for that precious Benjamin Daniel, son of Jeremy and Karen Granz Blumenfeld on April 11. Deer Park grandparents are superb Fire Island Lighthouse speaker volunteer Ernie "Mr. Hat" and vocalist Elsa Aukland Granz, active volunteers at the Community Presbyterian Church and Deer Park Archives. •Happy birthday to Deer Park Fire Department’s Glenn and Kristen Ostermann’s little honey, Alexa Ray on April 12. Hope it was a wonderful day. •Bouquets of birthday wishes on April 13th to Mike "#13" Marino’s Rosalie, a most delightful and thoughtful lady. Mike is known for conjuring up delicious coffee for his family and friends when his time permits as he is a member of the Deer Park Lions, Brumidi Lodge #2211, OLOR K. of C. and Peisker V.F.W. Post. •Dennis Riordan’s Barbara is sent wishes for a magnificent April 14th birthday. President Buddy Gillespie was emcee introducing many dignitaries who came to honor Dr. Robert. A highlight of the evening was Past President Bill Bruno presenting the 35-year pin to Dr. Robert and speaking of his dedicated community works. Lion Vincent DiPasquale, who was Dr. Robert’s secretary/treasurer, spoke about learning so much from him and how he was admired for a low key, calm approach to everything. A recap of Dr. Phillip’s Lion Life included references to: pancake breakfasts, spaghetti dinners, lobster fests, Run for Sight, Guide Dog Foundations, Sight Vans, scholarships, Jordan’s Town Kaffey, L.I. Arena and the wealth of knowledge passed on to those following the various Lion positions - member, officer, District Governor, or friend. President Gillespie was a superb emcee combining humor (his flying notes) with his gratitude for the always helpful guidance, calmness and compassion of Dr. Robert Phillips - the embodiment of Lionism! As a remembrance of their Deer Park life and Lion dedication, a magnificent crystal Lion was presented to Drs. Robert and; Irma Phillips with love, thanks and good wishes as they begin their retirement life. Dr. Irma was also presented with a beautiful bouquet by First Lady Joan Gillespie and wished well by Joan and all present. Dr. Robert quietly thanked all in his gracious style for being so honored together with his Dr. Irma. This is a couple who will be so missed by this community! Pictured are visiting Lion dignitaries together with Dr. Robert Phillips, seated right, Past President Bill Bruno, seated left and President Buddy Gillespie, standing right.
