Town historians sponsor essay contest


The Babylon Historical Commission is sponsoring its annual essay contest for fourth-grade elementary school students throughout the Town. Students were asked to write an essay about their experiences on September 11, 2001. Teachers who would like to have their students submit essays for the contest can contact Gloria Water, Babylon Town Hall, 631-957-3000. The deadline for submissions is Friday.

A ceremony honoring the students who write the winning entries will be held at Town Hall May 11. In addition, the Beacon newspaper, which is a sponsor of this contest, will publish the names and photos of the winners, together with excerpts of some of the essays submitted.

The Historical Commission is shown above at a working meeting. Members include McKinley Banks, Joan Haugen, Thomas Joseph, Sharon Davis Burt Koza, Joyce Peisker-Ratushny, Joan Rizzo, Bill Lauder (Amityville Historian) Evelyn Ellis (Lindenhurst Historian), Bill Frohlich, chairman.
