The Guide Dog Foundation

The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind Inc. announced that Kevin Gaffney, of North Babylon, has graduated from its training program. Gaffney and his new guide dog, a male black Labrador/Golden Retriever cross, completed the 25-day training program at the Foundation’s Long Island campus.

"When I would cross an intersection while walking with my cane, I often would walk into traffic. Cars would honk at me because I wasn’t walking right to the curb," said Gaffney, who lost his vision while in the Marine Crops. "My guide dog leads me straight to the curb; he won’t let me veer into traffic."

Gaffney now works as a massage therapist at the Suffolk Y in Commack.
